One of the biggest and most prestigious scholarships available to students from underdeveloped nations is the Commonwealth scholarship. Since the program’s start in 1959, over 35,000 people have received scholarships and fellowships thanks to it. Each year, the scholarship provides more than 900 common wealth citizens with fully financed scholarships and fellowships for postgraduate study and professional growth. The scholarship pays for tuition, housing, travel expenses, a stipend for meals, and other expenses. With scholarships, this is the best that can be done.

    The tips includes:

    1. Select the appropriate scholarship category that suits you:

You must first conduct thorough research to decide which Commonwealth Scholarships to apply for. You must be aware that there are various Commonwealth Scholarship prizes available. There are now 7 different categories of Commonwealth Fellowships and Scholarships. Therefore, it is your responsibility to carefully examine which scholarships you qualify for and which meet your career ambitions. For example, if you’re looking for a Masters scholarship, you should submit an application for the Commonwealth Master’s Scholarship (General) and Commonwealth Shared Scholarship since they are both scholarships for Master’s degree programs. In a similar vein, you should look into each of the nominating agencies and their unique needs.

    2. Submit an application through your nation’s nominating organizations:

Each county has a designated nominating body where candidates can submit their applications. The organizations could be national nominating bodies, particular non-governmental groups, or nonprofit organizations. You cannot apply directly to the Commonwealth; your application must go through one of these organizations. Each nominating body may have its own guidelines and requirements for eligibility that are unique to them. For instance, in Nigeria, the Federal Scholarship Board serves as the nominating body, and they demand that applicants have finished their national youth service and produce a certificate of physical fitness.

    3. Give thoughtful consideration to the essay questions, especially if it can help your native country.

The majority of scholarships for developing nations are designed to educate individuals who will later be of assistance to their home nations. In order for the Commonwealth Scholarship Commission and your nominating organization to understand your goals for your native nation should you be awarded the scholarship. You should include information about a specific issue in your native country that you aim to address as well as your plan for doing so. This has major significance. You can accomplish this by outlining the practical steps you propose to take to address the issue using the knowledge and skills you gained while studying in the UK, as well as how you plan to evaluate your progress over time.

    4. You should be… personal in your statement.

This is not the time to tell the committee how smart you are or how you got a first class. No! The purpose of the personal statement is to demonstrate your humanity—the aspects of you that cannot be revealed in your resume or test results. Make sure the reader understands what you want to achieve. Scholarships are given out by organizations to help students in the future. Why ought they to put money into yours? Persuade them that receiving this scholarship will enable you to fulfill your educational and professional ambitions. Describe what being highly motivated means to the readers rather than simply stating that you are one. Give instances when your motivation allowed you to do something wonderful. Give yourself ample time

    5. Your application should be coherent as a whole.

The various parts of your application must be connected to one another. Your whole application should be focused on demonstrating your ability to use the information and skills you gained in the UK to affect positive social change once you return to your native country. Each section of the application should support your main objective. You can join professional organizations in the new subject or enroll in a few short courses to demonstrate your competence in it, even if you are applying for a position in a field unrelated to what you studied for your first degree.

After making every effort to create your best application. Please try your best to submit.

However, applying for the Commonwealth Scholarship might be a waste of time if you do not meet its requirement to apply, that is you must check if you are eligible or not.

You must be a citizen or legal resident of a Commonwealth nation to be eligible. If you are a refugee or a British protected person, you will still be eligible. A minimum upper second-class undergraduate honors degree is also required (2:1). You will also need the relevant Master’s degree if you want to pursue a PhD. Without the scholarship, you must not be able to pay to attend college in the UK. To qualify for the scholarship, you must fulfill all of these requirements. All subject areas are eligible to apply for the scholarship, but those that show a strong connection to the applicant’s home country’s growth will be given preference. A 12-month master’s program and a 36-month PhD are both available.
